REPAIR PROCEDURE: REPLACING NEW-STYLE MODULES ON ECLIPSE SUN SHADES

NEW STYLE MODULES

New-Style Modules have only 2 screws holding the Cover to the Base (old-style modules have 3 screws) and have two orientations, referred to as “A” and “B”. From the perspective of looking from the inside of a car at a shade mounted on the windshield, the “A” Module locations are Driver Side Top and Passenger Side Bottom, and the “B” Module locations are Driver Side Bottom and Passenger Side Top.

MODULE PART NUMBERS

Stand the Module on its feet with screws facing you. The “A” Module is the one where the screw to the right is about 1/2” from the right side, and the “B” Module is the one where the screw to the right is about 1” from the right side. The “A” Module is part# 10144 and the “B” Module is part# 10145.

REPAIR VIA REPLACEMENT

1. Pull fishing line out from velcro, and cut line.
2. Remove screw that holds Module on shade.
3. Replace defective Module with repair Module.
4. Find a pair of plyers and a sewing needle.
5. Do not remove the fishing line from the paper clip. If the fishing line snaps back into the retractor,you will need to use a new retractor. Instead, bend the paper clip to make it so that both ends point upwards together like a needle, while holding the fishing line.
6. Put the retractor in place, but do not screw it in yet. Take the paper clip and maneuver the fishing line through the shade until you get to a small copper hole. This is where you need to remove the fishing line from the paper clip.
7. When doing this, make sure that the line is never just held by your fingers. Make sure that it is wrapped 4 times around a finger. Then maneuver the fishing line until the Velcro.
8. Once you get to the final hole in the Velcro, get the sewing needle out. Again, make sure that the line is always wrapped around a finger 4 times so that it doesn’t snap back into the retractor. Then put the line through the needle and thread it through the Velcro.
9. Once the line is out of the Velcro, it’s time to make a knot. While keeping the line wrapped around a finger, make a big loop and thread the line , in and out through this loop 5 times. Then pull the knot tight.
10. Screw in the silver screw.
